Talk by Abbie Meakes Graduate.

Abbie came to talk to us about what she has been doing after being left the course for two years and share some advice.

  • She began with telling us that is is important to make your portfolio different giving it an edge.
  • Don't be worried about finding a job straight away, give yourself breathing space between graduation and a full time job
  • Show that experience could be competitions
Her first job was at the UYR in Leeds but she didn't feel it was her type of job, she gave us some advice on what you should look for in a job to make sure it is what you want.
  • Look at the vibe and culture
  • Look at the turn around time
  • Are people there progressing
What could you ask at an interview
  • Is there progression opportunities
  • Is there collaboration
You could use recruitment agencies such as Craft, Type and Book.

She now works at 'We are Vista' which does events/designs for big clients and she is a lot happier there. She states that even working with a big group of people you still get your work out there and the longer you work there the more work you can get involved in.

Her main advice that I felt was beneficial was Don't rush into anything!
